The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.
The Columbus Male and Female Academy, dedicated in 1856, served as an institution for higher learning for students from local communities. From 1896-1952 the Academy educated an estimated 1,500 students. Today it is preserved as a historical building by members and friends of the New Columbus Academy Memorial Hall.
